Upcoming Events

Hello all,

I would like to inform you all of some events that NSCS is going to be doing in the near future.

As an honor society, we promote academic and personal integrity in all our endeavors. February 9-13 is I Stand for Integrity Week, and NSCS chapters around the nation will be holding various events promoting integrity. Our chapter will be advocating for integrity on this coming Tuesday (February 10).   NSCS will be having a table in the Woodard Campus Center nearby the Eagle’s Nest, from 11AM to 2PM.   Students (NSCS members or not) can come by and sign a banner to pledge their integrity.  We will also be having free cake at the table, so please come on by and pledge your integrity!

We will need a few NSCS members to help us out with this event from 12-2.  Particularly, we need a couple of people for blocks from 12-12:30, 12:30-1, 1-1:30, and 1:30 to 2.

Also, NSCS will be having a pizza party this coming Friday (Feb. 13th) at 5PM.  Details about the location of the pizza party are coming soon.

On February 21, NSCS will be partnering up with Circle K to participate in a River Clean-up.  We will be doing this event from 10 AM to 12 PM.  If you can participate in this event, please reply back to this e-mail saying you will come (even if you can only come for a little while).  We will need some help with transportation.  If you want to provide transportation, can you please tell us how many people your car can take?

I hope to see you all at these events!  Thanks so much for your help!

Hey NSCS members!

We were so glad to see such a great turnout for the induction ceremony this past
Saturday! Congrats to all of our new members.

Our first chapter meeting of the year wll be held this Wednesday, September 24
in Combs 111 at 7:30 pm. We need to fill a couple of vacant officer positions
and take care of a few other things to get the year off on the right foot. Plus,
there will be cookies! We hope to see you all there, and feel free to email us
if you have any questions.

~NSCS Officers

Hi members,

The officers need your help with the induction ceremony.  If you are able to help, come to the lobby of Monroe Wednesday the 3rd at 9pm.  See you then!

Thanks, Melissa

-NSCS Officers

Hello Everyone,
I hope the end of your semester is going well. I just wanted to remind you that we are having a meeting THIS WEDNESDAY, April 9th at 7pm in Combs 001. At this meeting we will be voting for NSCS officers. All of the officer positions are open: President, Vice President, Community Service Chair, Social Chair, Historian/Webmaster, Treasurer and Secretary. If you would like to run, we encourage you to come to the meeting, tell us what position you would like and why you think people should vote for you. If you cannot attend the meeting, you can still run for an officer but you MUST email me (meghann_siebert@hotmail.com) with what position you want and why people should vote for you. If you email me this information I will put your name up for the vote and read this information to the club. This information must be emailed to me by 5pm on Wednesday! Voting will take place at Wednesday’s meeting.
Hope to see you all there!
Meghann Siebert

P.S-As always, if you know someone who is not recieving these emails but is in the club, please pass on the information. Thanks!

March Meeting Minutes

By on March 26, 2008 1 Comment

Here are our meeting minutes:
The first thing we discussed at our meeting was that we have just created a new website (http://nscs.umwblogs.org). Please join it we will be using it to post information about the club and hold other discussions. We also encourage you to join our facebook group because we send out message through this also.
We also discussed service opportunities. One possible service opportunity is volunteering at Bragg Hill. Bragg Hill is an after school program for at-risk children. You go and help with snack, play with the kids, etc. THIS Wednesday, March 19th Holly (our vice president) will be going to Bragg Hill from 3:15-5:30. If you are interested in going, email Holly at hdett9rm@umw.edu before hand and you can arrange a place to meet for rides or get directions. If you can’t go this Wednesday but would like to arrange to go another day let us know and we can try to work something out. They always need volunteers. Another service opportunity we talked about was doing a River Clean Up. We are thinking about Saturday April 12th but will let you know more when we find out more information.
Finally, we will be holding officer elections at our next meeting April 9th at 7pm in Combs 001. The officer positions are: President, Vice President, Community Service Chair, Social Chair, Historian/Webmaster, Treasurer and Secretary. If you would like to run, please email the Secretary (meghann_siebert@hotmail.com) a brief blurb about yourself and what position you want. You do not need to be at the meeting to be elected; however, if you can attend we recommend it. About a week before our meeting, Meghann will email out the descriptions people have sent me so they have an idea of who they might vote for at the election.

What is NSCS?

The National Society of Collegiate Scholars is an honor society for students that maintain a 3.4 GPA during their freshmen and/or sophomore years.

Joining NSCS also has several specific advantages for UMW students. The UMW NSCS has paid to send members to the national NSCS convention, members have received scholarships and other awards from NSCS, and graduating members of NSCS have the distinct honor of wearing cords at commencement.

More information about NSCS is available on the UMW website.

If you have questions, feel free to contact one of the officers, or our adviser, Dr. Tuttle. If you decide to join, please also feel free to join our facebook group.
